How To Set Your Monitor

The Benson Area Commerce Web Site is designed for a screen area of 800 x 600 pixels or more. If your present settings are 640 x 480, you should change your settings. You can change your screen area settings in Windows by: placing your mouse pointer on a clear area of your desk top, then click your right mouse button once.

A menu, like that shown on the right, will appear. Place your mouse pointer over the "Properties" button and click your left mouse button once.

NOTE: These instructions assume you have your mouse set up for right-hand operation.

A "Display Properties" window similar to that on the left will appear on your screen. Click on the "Settings" tab (near the top right corner) to give you the picture shown.

Move the slider under the "Screen Area" to "800 by 600 pixels" or more. The "Colors" should be set at "256 Colors" or more. Then click on the "Apply" button.

NOTE: more colors usually produce sharper & clearer pictures. The highest number of colors and highest resolutions may require better, more expensive equipment.

If you do not see a "Monitor Settings" dialog box like the one above, your video (or graphics) card does not support the settings you specified for "Screen Area" or "Colors" in the "Display Properties" window above. Try a lower setting and click the "Apply" button again.

You have 15 seconds to click the "Yes" button when the "Monitor Settings" dialog box appears on your screen. Then you'll see the "Display Properties" window, like that shown on the third picture above. Only now the "Display Properties" window will appear smaller than the first time you saw it! Now click the "OK" button on the "Display Properties" window.
